Ahead of a newly commissioned 8-part Scandinavian documentary the Event Streaming team have just returned from a 10-day trial filming and live webcasting from a self-built raft drifting at 4mph down the Klarälven river. (“The clear river” in Swedish)

Sweden is simply stunning and once we built the raft and waved goodbye, we didn’t see a soul for days. Our job was to test the internet link from the raft and also fly drones and check for any issues with connectivity and streaming. (I’m pleased to say all the equipment work perfectly)

The kit included a Mavic drone and Teradek Link Pro which provided us with an internet speed of approx. 50mb up/down throughout the entire stretch.

The tough part was the 20 hours of Swedish daylight during this summer’s heatwave, we had nowhere to hide from the relentless sun and all suffered mild heatstroke and burns. Once the sun finally nudged the horizon it was the turn of the 1500 species of mosquitos that Sweden boasts to have their party, fortunately we were well warned and prepared and camped out in basically bee suits.

The river winds for approximately 290 miles through some of the remotest parts of Scandinavia, previously used as a logging route until as recent as the 1980s it’s now very much a wilderness magnet for adventurers’ – the sunsets, sunrises and night skies are like none we’ve witnessed before and are simply breath-taking.

Would we recommend rafting? maybe, probably, definitely but choose your crew wisely we didn’t talk for a week once we returned to hot baths, air-con and hotel comforts.

The Scandinavian documentary team start filming next spring, we wish them well and look forward to seeing the final broadcast utilising Event Streaming. TV as they’re preferred remote streaming company.

This week we were very excited to back on the road and even more so to connect and live stream the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger, actor, former politician and 38^th Governor of California, in conversation with the historian Dan Snow.

The International Churchill Society (ICS) hosted a two-day conference from the London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square, which included live debate, virtual presenters and pre-recorded contributions.

This high-profile event was produced, filmed and streamed live by webcast production company Event Streaming .TV who provided all the expertise, equipment and crew to manage the two-day conference.

For nearly 40 years, scholars, students and Churchillians from around the world have gathered at the highly popular International Churchill Conference held each year in either North America or the United Kingdom.

Due to the COVID restrictions the event was completely virtual last year winning high praise from the organisers, contributors and viewers, with the webcast reaching an audience of thousands across 62 countries.  This year the success was repeated as a hybrid event, a possible template for all future events as it allows such a diverse and extended audience to view and participate.

Festival streaming, live music and beer tents are back and the Event Streaming .TV webcast production team were more than happy to spend 4 nights under canvas to live stream a daily news and round-up of the Adventure Biker Festival live form the stunning grounds at Ragley Hall in Warwickshire.

Event Streaming .TV filmed and webcast a live one-hour show from the ABR Festival each night via their website and social media so the many riders who couldn’t attend could get involved with the entertainment, news and competitions.

Event Streaming .TV provided all the filming and webcast production crew to stream the daily show form a pop-up studio in the heart of the festival, using multiple cameras, encoding, professional sound and lights, we live vision mixed graphics and pre-recorded content into an engaging broadcast with the aim to keep viewers informed and watching. The Festival streamed live to multiple social media channels and the clients own website via our customisable player.

Event Streaming .TV also provided a creative videographer and editor to produce pre-recorded content to play-out within the live show. Fast editing and long days allowed us to produce approx. 2 hours of edited and graded content.

The dramatic rise of webcasting means that some online events are now gaining larger viewing numbers than satellite and cable TV.

Just from our experience we’ve seen online viewing numbers of over 1 million for a game launch on Twitch and YouTube and we’re regularly hitting over 100k for film premieres and press junkets.

In contrast almost 20 cable channels failed to reach the most modest viewership total of 100,000 per week. Audiences (especially millennials) are increasingly moving away from traditional television and settling for on-demand services, such as Netflix.

According to UK regulator Ofcom, household subscriptions to the VOD services – Netflix, Amazon Prime and Sky Now – shot up from 4.2 million to six million in the 12 months to March.

Forecasts from Mintel stated that UK streaming video subscription revenues will rise from £437m to £1.17bn between 2014 and 2019 as users more than double.

Year on year we’re watching less conventional programmed television and instead catching up with programmes within a week. Most of us now have a large library of programmes, possibly hundreds of hours of viewing, recorded on Sky+, Tivo and of the shelf digital video recorders.

Numbers aren’t everything – one is enough.

Working regularly within the corporate industry, webcasting AGM’s, conferences and product launches we appreciate high viewing figures are not always the goal.

Quality viewers are what most of our clients are aiming for; we once filmed and streamed a sporting event from London to New York with just one person watching. That person, the CEO was the event sponsor and just wanted to see how the event was looking.

The other issue is interactivity, TV offers little ability for the viewer to respond or be part of the programme, whereas webcasting allows the viewers to take part in real-time voting, ask a question or comment via social media.

As part of the Beautiful Resistance Tour, 14 young people from Alrowwad Centre for Culture & Arts in Bethlehem visited the UK this summer to perform and experience life outside the constraints of their daily lives inside a refugee camp.
